Added a bluetooth printer that was previously installed. Printed once. Now the printer shows an error message. Removed the printer and reinstalled. Same test print error.

    Welcome to Microsoft Q&A!

Thank you for providing the additional details

Based on your description, the printer was able to print successfully once after installation, which suggests that the Bluetooth pairing and initial setup completed correctly. Since the issue occurs after that first successful print, the problem may be related to a stuck print job, the Print Spooler service, a driver issue, or a communication problem between Windows and the printer.

I recommend trying the following steps:

    1. Restart the printer and your PC

A simple restart can often clear temporary communication issues between Windows and the printer.

    2. Clear any pending print jobs

    • Go to Settings > Bluetooth & devices > Printers & scanners.
    • Select the affected printer and open the Print queue.
    • Cancel any pending print jobs.
    • Once the queue is empty, try printing a test page again.

    3. Restart the Print Spooler service

    • Press Windows + R, type services.msc, and press Enter.
    • Locate Print Spooler.
    • Right-click the service and select Restart.

    4. Remove and re-add the printer

    • Remove the printer from Printers & scanners.
    • Remove the device from Bluetooth & devices as well.
    • Restart your PC.
    • Pair the printer through Bluetooth again before reinstalling it.

    5. Check for updated drivers

    • Open Device Manager and look for the printer under the appropriate category.
    • Update the driver if an update is available.
    • If the manufacturer provides a dedicated driver package, I recommend downloading and installing the latest version directly from their support website.

    6. Run the Windows Printer Troubleshooter

    • Navigate to Settings > System > Troubleshoot > Other troubleshooters.
    • Run the Printer troubleshooter.
    • Apply any recommendations that Windows identifies.

Since the printer was already removed and reinstalled and the test print still fails, use this order of checks:

    1. Verify the Bluetooth connection.
      • Make sure Bluetooth is enabled on the PC and the printer.
      • Keep the printer within range.
      • If Bluetooth connectivity itself is unstable, use the Windows Bluetooth troubleshooting guidance.
    2. Restart the Print Spooler service.
      • Press Windows key + R.
      • Type services.msc and press Enter.
      • Find Print Spooler.
      • Right-click Print Spooler and select Restart.
    3. Update or reinstall the printer driver.
      • Select Start > Device Manager.
      • Expand Printers.
      • Right-click the printer and select Update driver.
      • If no update is found, select Uninstall device.
      • Restart the PC so Windows can attempt to reinstall the driver automatically.
    4. Set the printer as the default printer.
      • Go to Start > Settings > Bluetooth & devices > Printers & scanners.
      • Select the printer.
      • Choose Set as default.
      • If Set as default is not available, turn off Let Windows manage my default printer first.
    5. Clear any stuck print jobs.
      • Go to Start > Settings > Bluetooth & devices > Printers & scanners.
      • Select the printer.
      • Open Open print queue.
      • If jobs are pending, select ... and choose Cancel all.
    6. Remove and add the printer again after the steps above.
      • Go to Start > Settings > Bluetooth & devices > Printers & scanners.
      • Select the printer and choose Remove.
      • Then next to Add a printer or scanner, select Add device and follow the prompts.

If the printer still shows an error after these steps, run the printer troubleshooter:

    • Open Settings.
    • Select Bluetooth & devices > Printers & scanners.
    • Select the printer and choose More devices and printer settings.
    • Right-click the printer and select Troubleshoot.
