Hi @Safa Etoom
Microsoft Word still does not provide APA 7th Edition as a standard built-in citation style in many versions. Microsoft’s current documentation still lists APA as a citation style, but the built-in APA implementation may be the older version.

If you're using Word on Windows, you can add APA 7 as a custom bibliography style:

  1. Download the community-created APASeventhEdition.xsl file.

Completely close Word.

Copy the .xsl file to:

%appdata%\Microsoft\Bibliography\Style

This normally points to:

C:\Users\<your username>\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Bibliography\Style

Reopen Word.

Go to References → Style.

You should then see APA7 / APA 7th Edition in the list.

There is also a community Microsoft thread with the APA 7 style file and installation instructions.

One important point: this is a community-created workaround, not an official Microsoft-provided APA 7 style. So I'd still verify the final references against the official APA 7 guidelines, especially for less common source types.

If you don't want to modify Word's bibliography styles, using a citation manager that supports APA 7 is another option.Microsoft Word still does not provide APA 7th Edition as a standard built-in citation style in many versions. Hi @Safa Etoom,

At this time, Microsoft Word does not offer the APA Standards 7 edition as a built-in citation style. Most versions still use APA 6, and there has been no official update to the underlying citation system to reflect the most recent version.

For this reason, the usual practice is to use a community-created APA 7-style file and manually add it to Word. This is not an official Microsoft feature, but it is a widely used workaround.

If you want to enable APA 7 in Word, here's the process recommended by many users in the community:

User Image

  • Copy the file to the Word bibliography styles folder: C:\Users\<your username>\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Bibliography\Style
  • (If you can't see the AppData folder, go to Show View > and make sure Hidden Items is turned on.)

  • Reopen Word, go to the References tab, and select APA 7th Edition from the style drop-down menu.
