If Microsoft Store is blocked, the fix depends on what is blocking it:
- Check whether Store access was turned off by policy.
- On managed devices, Microsoft Store can be blocked by the Turn off the Store application setting.
- The Group Policy path is: Computer Configuration\Administrative Templates\Windows Components\Store
- If that setting is Enabled, Microsoft Store is blocked. Set it back so the Store app is allowed.
- If the Store is not policy-blocked, reset the Store cache.
- Press Windows key + R
- Type wsreset.exe
- Select OK
- A blank Command Prompt window opens, then closes after about 10 seconds, and Microsoft Store should open automatically.
- Make sure Windows is fully updated.
- Go to Start > Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update > Check for updates
- Install any available updates.
- Check time and region settings.
- Incorrect time, language, or region settings can prevent Microsoft Store from opening.
- Search for Microsoft Store from Start.
- Select Start
- Type Microsoft Store
- Open it from the search result.
- If it is missing, download it from the Store online.
- If the message says the app was blocked by an administrator, AppLocker may be blocking Store apps.
- In that case, the application control policy must be changed to allow Microsoft Store apps.
- If the laptop is connected to a work or school domain and the problem happens after connecting to a VPN with force tunneling enabled, that VPN/firewall configuration can block Microsoft Store traffic.
If this is a personal home laptop, the most useful first steps are wsreset.exe, Windows Update, and checking whether a policy is blocking the Store. If it is a work or school-managed laptop, the block is usually intentional and must be changed by the administrator.
