For deploying a custom PowerPoint template to all company users, I would recommend using the Microsoft 365 organization template approach rather than manually copying a .potx file to each user's computer.

A typical setup is:

• Create and finalize the .potx template, including the company theme, fonts, colors, layouts, logo, and slide masters.

• Store the template in a controlled SharePoint location and make it available to the intended users.

• Publish it through the organization's Microsoft 365/Office template management so users can find it directly from PowerPoint under the organization/company templates.

• Use Microsoft 365/Intune or your existing device-management solution if you also need to enforce supporting fonts, Office settings, or other client-side requirements.

This has the advantage that users can access the same centrally managed template without maintaining separate copies on every machine.

For a large organization, I'd also recommend having separate templates for different use cases, for example:

Corporate Presentation | Sales | Executive | Project | Training

rather than giving everyone multiple unmanaged .potx files.

The exact deployment steps depend on whether your users are on Microsoft 365 Apps, Office LTSC, or a mixed environment, and whether you manage devices with Intune/GPO.

-Deployment steps

Prepare the company template and save it in the PowerPoint Template (.potx) format.
Create or select a SharePoint Online site that will host your organization’s templates.
Create a document library on that site, for example, Corporate Templates, and upload the .potx file to it.
Ensure that company users have at least Read permission to the relevant SharePoint site and template library.
Install or update the SharePoint Online Management Shell, connect as a SharePoint Administrator, and register the library by running:

-Where users can find the template

-Requirements and important notes

Microsoft states that the template file must use the .potx format.
PowerPoint desktop users need Microsoft 365 Apps version 2002 or later.

Based on the error message, it appears that SharePoint is blocking the library from being registered as an Organization Assets Library because the required permission has not been granted.

The error specifically states: "Everyone except external users" needs to be given read permission to the document library. This means that before running Add-SPOOrgAssetsLibrary, the document library must grant at least Read access to the Everyone except external users group.

Could you please check the following?

Open the site's Advanced permissions settings: Go to the site hosting the template library. Click the gear icon > Site permissions > Advanced permissions settings. This opens the classic permissions view where you can see and grant access to system groups like "Everyone except external users."

Add "Everyone except external users" with Read access: In the Groups list, select the Visitors group for the site (or the library's own permission group if you're granting at the library level insteadinstead, see next step for that path). Click "New" > "Add Users to this Group," type Everyone except external users, and confirm it resolves to the system group (not a literal text match). Set the permission level to Read.

Alternative: grant it at the library level instead of site level: If you'd rather scope this narrowly to just the templates library (not the whole site), go to the library itself > Library Settings > Permissions for this document library. If it says "inherits permissions," click Stop Inheriting Permissions first, then Grant Permissions > add Everyone except external users > Read.

Thanks a lot . But when open the Template in broswer it is working ,when open in application same template it is showing as "File Extension as chnaged" why? It worked depolyment me.Additional i need depoly the custom template through intune for all my macbook or windows.

can you guide me how to do it.

On the "file extension has changed" warning: it almost always means the .potx file uploaded to the library isn't actually a genuine PowerPoint Template internally, even though it's named .potx. The most frequent cause is that the file's extension was changed by renaming (in File Explorer, during export, or via a script) rather than by using PowerPoint's own Save As > PowerPoint Template (*.potx) option. Office checks the file's actual internal format against its extension when opening locally, and flags the mismatch, which is exactly why it opens fine in the browser (PowerPoint for the web renders through Office Online Server, which doesn't perform that same local signature check) but throws a warning in the desktop app.

The fix: open your original file in PowerPoint desktop, go to File > Save As > Browse, and explicitly choose "PowerPoint Template (*.potx)" from the file type dropdown, don't just rename an existing file's extension. Replace the file in the SharePoint library with this properly-saved version. Since the library is already registered as an org asset, this is just a content swap, not a re-registration, so it should propagate much faster than the initial 24-hour window.

On deploying via Intune (Windows + macOS): this is a separate, file-copy-based method rather than the cloud-hosted Org Assets approach, and the two aren't mutually exclusive, you can run both if you want a local fallback in addition to the SharePoint tab.

-Windows: package the .potx as a Win32 app in IntuneIntune > Apps > Windows > Create > Windows app (Win32). Package a small install script (.intunewin, built with the Win32 Content Prep Tool) that copies the .potx into %APPDATA%\Microsoft\Templates\ for the signed-in user. This makes it show up under the "Personal" tab in File > New.

-macOS: deploy via shell script or a signed .pkgIntune > Apps > macOS > Create > Shell script, or package as a Custom App (.pkg) if you prefer a signed installer. Since Intune scripts on Mac run as root, the script needs to explicitly resolve the currently logged-in user and copy the file into that user's own Library path, not a root-level path.

Please keep in mind: updates require redeployment, unlike the SharePoint method. Since this is now a file sitting locally on each device rather than a live SharePoint-backed template, updating it later means redeploying through Intune again, there's no single central edit like there is with the Org Assets Library. Worth deciding up front whether this local copy is meant to be a permanent parallel channel, or just a stopgap while the SharePoint library propagates and gets adopted.

Best approaches depend on where the template must appear in PowerPoint:

For easy access under File > New for each user Save the company template as a PowerPoint Template (.potx) and place it in the user template location.
- In PowerPoint, the standard personal template location can be set or checked at: File > Options > Save > Default personal templates location
- If no location is set, the recommended default folder is: C:\Users\<UserName>\Documents\Custom Office Templates
- After the .potx file is in that folder, users can go to File > New and open it from Personal or Custom.
This is the most direct approach if the goal is to make the template available locally to all users.
For organization-wide branded templates in PowerPoint for the web Use your organization’s templates experience.
- In Office.com, open PowerPoint
- Go to File > New > Browse templates
- Users can select the company name on the left to see branded templates or folders
This is the better approach when the goal is centralized access to company templates.
If a new presentation must always start from the company template Start from the custom template file and save as a new .pptx:
- File > Open
- Open the .potx template
- File > Save As
- Save as PowerPoint Presentation (.pptx)
If existing presentations must adopt the company template Create a new presentation from the template, then import the old slides:
- Open the existing presentation
- Select the slides in the thumbnail pane
- Copy them
- Open the new presentation based on the template
- Paste using Use Destination Theme so the slides adopt the template design
If building the template from scratch Create and save it as a reusable .potx by editing the Slide Master and layouts:
- File > New > Blank Presentation
- View > Slide Master
- Modify the master, layouts, placeholders, theme, and background
- Save as PowerPoint Template (.potx)

Recommended approach

For desktop users on Windows: distribute a .potx file into each user’s Custom Office Templates folder so it appears under Personal/Custom in File > New.
For centralized company access, especially for browser users: publish organizational templates so users can find them from Office.com > PowerPoint > File > New > Browse templates.
