Sending, receiving, and organizing email in Outlook.com
This is usually a display-name or suggested-recipient issue, not a sign that the mailbox itself was changed, especially since it does not happen on the iPhone.
Try these steps in Outlook on the web:
- Open Outlook on the web and start a new message.
- In the To field, type the affected email address.
- If the wrong name appears as a suggestion, point to it and select the X to remove that suggested recipient.
- Type the address again and check whether the wrong name is gone.
If the wrong name only appears when sending to the same address the message is being sent from, Outlook can also show Note to Self instead of the normal name. That behavior is expected.
If the wrong name still appears after removing the suggestion, the name may be coming from account/profile information rather than the suggestion list:
- For Outlook.com or Microsoft account alias issues, check the primary alias and sign-in aliases in the Microsoft account settings. If the primary alias was changed recently, Outlook mobile may require deleting and re-adding the account.
- If this is a work or school account, some profile details are controlled by the organization and must be changed by the admin.
If the issue is only in one app or one device, removing the bad suggestion first is the most direct fix.
