Can't type in a Word document on my iMac. Filled in one page then everything I had typed totally disappeared. This has been going on for days. At the bottom of my page it says "accessibility: Investigate" And Another message says "Document Access: Restricted"

    Try these steps in order:

    1. Check whether Word is in reduced functionality or lost activation If Word shows messages like "function is locked" or documents cannot be edited, Word for Mac may have lost activation status and opened in read-only mode.
      • Open Word.
      • Select Word > Sign Out.
      • Quit Word completely.
      • Reopen Word and sign in with the Microsoft account that has the Microsoft 365 subscription or Office purchase.
    2. Check for updates
      • In any Office app, go to Help > Check for Updates.
      • Turn on Automatically keep Microsoft apps up to date.
      • Select Update and install all available updates.
      • Restart the Mac and test Word again.
    3. Reset Word preferences Corrupt preferences can cause Word for Mac to stop responding or close unexpectedly. Warning: this removes custom preferences such as keyboard shortcuts and toolbar or dictionary changes.
      • Quit all programs.
      • In Finder, open Go > Home > Library. On macOS 10.7 or later, hold Option while opening Go to show Library.
      • Open Preferences and drag com.microsoft.Word.plist to the desktop.
      • Open the Microsoft folder in Preferences and drag com.microsoft.Word.prefs.plist to the desktop. If Word version is 14.2.0 or above with Service Pack 2, use Application Support > Microsoft instead.
      • Start Word and test.
      • If the problem is gone, quit Word and move the corrupt file to the Trash.
    4. Reset the Normal template If resetting preferences does not help:
      • Quit all programs.
      • Go to Home > Library > Application Support > Microsoft > Office > User Templates.
      • Drag Normal.dotm to the desktop.
      • Start Word and test again.
      • If Word works, quit Word and move Normal.dotm to the Trash.
    5. Check for background interference Background programs can interfere with Word for Mac. The issue description in Microsoft support lists this as a possible cause. If the problem started after installing an add-in, remove or update that add-in. One documented example is the WordRake add-in, which caused Word crashes on Mac until updated or removed.
    6. Contact support For Microsoft 365 for home or a one-time Office purchase, use the Contact Us link at the bottom of the support page to talk to support. Community help is also available in the Office for Mac community.
