Help! I need to speak to a LIVE person. I've lost access to my Microsoft 365 Excel files despite having a paid subscription

I am confused about what is going with my account. I'm sometimes able to log in and sometimes it tells me that my email doesn't have an account and won't log me in. Which is weird. When I do log in, it indicates I don't have a paid subscription and I no longer see my Excel files that were saved online all last year. I am still getting charged though; I see it on my bank account. I cannot reach a live person. I've used the online resources and called every phone numbers listed for the United States. I keep getting the run around by AI and it tells me to contact my administrator and hangs up on me. Help?

    Hi Rachel,

Thank you for sharing the details of your situation.

First, please open an InPrivate or Incognito browser window and sign in again using the work or school account previously associated with your Microsoft 365 subscription and files to see whether you can access the account consistently and whether the subscription and files are displayed correctly.

Then, visit the following page to check whether a subscription or license is listed under your account: https://portal.office.com/account/?ref=Harmony#subscriptions

If the license is missing, inactive, or does not appear to be assigned correctly, an administrator should sign in to the Microsoft 365 admin center and check the subscription status under Billing > Your products, as well as your license assignment under Users > Active users.

If you are an end user and do not have administrator access, please contact your organization’s IT administrator. End users generally cannot open Microsoft 365 tenant-level support requests directly. Your administrator can verify your account, license assignment, and subscription status on your behalf.

Should further investigation be necessary, your administrator can open a support request with the Microsoft Billing Support team through Help & support in the Microsoft 365 admin center. This team specializes in subscription and billing-related issues and can review the relevant account and payment details more thoroughly.

Use these steps to reach a live support agent and verify which account/subscription is being charged:

    1. Start with Microsoft’s sign-in helper: Start sign-in helper.
      • Enter the email address or mobile number being used for sign-in.
      • This checks for account problems and tells what action is needed.
    2. If sign-in works, check where the subscription is managed.
      • Go to the Services & subscriptions page.
      • Sign in with the Microsoft account that is being charged.
      • Select Manage.
      • If the subscription was purchased through Microsoft, management options appear there.
      • If it was purchased through a third-party retailer, the page redirects to that retailer’s site.
    3. If the account shows no subscription but charges continue, contact Microsoft Support through the support flow that can route to chat or a callback.
      • Go to Contact Microsoft Support or Get Help on the web.
      • Enter the problem.
      • Select Get Help.
      • If needed, select Contact Support.
      • Choose Microsoft 365 and Office and a subscription/account category.
      • Support may offer chat or let a phone call be requested.
    4. If the prompts say to contact an administrator, that usually indicates the sign-in is being treated as a work account rather than a personal Microsoft account.
      • On the support page, choose the correct account type: Personal account or Work account.
      • If this is a work or school account, use the work/school password help path instead of the personal Microsoft account path.
    5. For the missing Excel files saved online:
      • Microsoft 365 files do not have to be stored only in the cloud; files may be on OneDrive or on a local device.
      • If the files were saved online, check the same account that was used last year.
      • If OneDrive files were synced before, they may also still exist on the device for offline access.
    6. Important limitation:
      • Support agents cannot send password reset links or directly change account details for security reasons.
      • The sign-in helper is the required first step for account access issues.

If the goal is to speak to a person as quickly as possible, the most direct supported path in the available guidance is: sign-in helper first, then Microsoft Support → Get HelpContact SupportMicrosoft 365 and Office → subscription/account issue → chat or callback option.
