Try resetting the PC from Windows Recovery Environment instead of from inside Windows.
- On the sign-in screen or from Start, select the Power icon.
- Hold Shift and select Restart.
- In Windows Recovery Environment, select Troubleshoot.
- Select Reset this PC.
- Choose Keep my files if personal files need to be preserved, or Remove everything for a full reset.
- Follow the on-screen instructions.
If Settings is still accessible, the standard reset path is:
- Start > Settings > System > Recovery > Reset PC
Important:
- Resetting can take time, and the screen may go black for a long period. Do not manually restart during the reset, or the reset can fail.
- If the device is encrypted, Windows may require the BitLocker recovery key before the reset can continue.
- Remove everything deletes personal data.
If the reset asks for a recovery key, that means BitLocker is enabled on the system drive. In that case, locate the recovery key and then retry the reset.
If password or sign-in problems are involved, restart the device first and use the Windows sign-in troubleshooting options. Microsoft support cannot retrieve or bypass a lost or forgotten password.
