Sending, receiving, and organizing email in Outlook.com
The next step is to use the account recovery path again or the sign-in helper. There is no support path that can bypass account verification, send reset links, or change account details for this scenario.
- Start with the Sign-in Helper. It checks the sign-in details and guides the recovery steps.
- If the account still offers only the old phone number, select I don't have any of these or continue with the recovery form.
- Complete the Account recovery form from:
- a device previously used to sign in to that account
- a location commonly used with that account, such as home This improves the chance of successful verification.
- Use a working email address that can receive updates about the recovery request.
- If the form was denied, submit it again with any additional details that can be remembered. Microsoft reviews the answers and responds within 24 hours.
- If the account name is not recognized, check the exact Outlook domain and spelling carefully. Microsoft accounts can use different domains such as
.comand.co.uk, and small spelling differences matter.
Important limits for this case:
- If two-step verification is turned on and none of the alternate verification methods are accessible, support agents cannot help regain access.
- Support agents also cannot send password reset links, send verification codes, or access and change account details.
- If verification codes are being requested and the listed phone or email is no longer available, the sign-in flow may offer I don't have any of these to add or verify security info.
If technical help is still needed, use Contact Microsoft Support, but the outcome for account access will still be limited to the official recovery process.
