What happens to a user's posts, name, and profile photo when the user is deleted in the M365 admin centre?

I'm trying to understand how this is handled across a few products; Viva Engage, Teams, and SharePoint. Specifically:

Do the posts stay visible, with the name changed to something like "Unknown" or "Former user"?

Is the profile photo also replaced with a generic placeholder?

Does this still apply even if the post has zero interactions (no likes or comments), or is there different handling in that case?

    The way posts, display names, and user profiles appear after a user account is deleted from the Microsoft 365 Admin Center can vary depending on the product.

    1. Microsoft Teams

    The user's name will be displayed as "Unknown User." However, the user's profile picture (avatar) may still be retained and remain unchanged.

    Channel Conversations

    • Messages previously sent by the user in a channel are retained and continue to be displayed.
    • However, the user's name is replaced with "Unknown User."
    • The content of the messages remains intact.

    Private 1:1 Chats

    • The chat history continues to be available.
    • However, in the chat list on the left pane, "Unknown User" will appear instead of the deleted user's name.

    Team Membership
