A Microsoft file hosting and synchronization service.
Use the accounts side by side. A personal Microsoft account and a work or school account cannot be merged, but both can be used on the same PC.
For OneDrive on the same PC:
- Open the OneDrive cloud icon in the Windows notification area.
- Select Help and Settings > Settings.
- Open the Account tab.
- Select Add an account.
- Sign in with the other account.
This gives separate OneDrive locations for personal and work files. The storage stays separate:
- work or school folders cannot be synced into personal OneDrive folders
- files can be copied or dragged from one OneDrive to the other
- only one personal OneDrive account can be added
For Microsoft 365 apps such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook:
- Select the account profile in the app header.
- Select Add an account.
For the setup described:
- keep both OneDrive accounts signed in on the PC for separate file access
- use the work account in Outlook and Teams
- keep personal activity under the personal Microsoft account
If clearer separation is needed on the same device, Windows can also use different accounts on a shared PC so each account has its own files, browser favorites, and desktop settings.
