I am using a personal PC for personal activities as well as work activities. I have two Microsoft 365 accounts - one personal and one for work. How can I clearly operate on one PC with two accounts? I need separate access to each OneDrive. Only the Work account uses Outlook and Teams.

When you sign in to both accounts in OneDrive, two separate OneDrive folders will be created in File Explorer, one for your personal files and another for your work files. This is very helpful, and I think it worked.

I do want to understand one detail, though. Does OneDrive incorporate my Desktop files? I see a Desktop folder in Personal OneDrive, but its contents don't match the current desktop. No such folder appears in the Work OneDrive. To clarify, I don't need the desktop in either OneDrive, but I don't want to create confusion, future problems, or duplicated files. Thank you!

To confirm whether your current Desktop is being backed up to OneDrive, please open:

OneDrive Settings > Sync and backup > Manage backup

Then, check the status shown next to Desktop:

If it shows Backed up, your current Desktop folder is being backed up to that OneDrive account.

If it shows Not backed up, the Desktop folder in your Personal OneDrive may be an older folder from a previous backup setup or another device.

If you do not want your Desktop to be backed up to OneDrive, you can turn off the toggle next to Desktop under Manage backup.

Use the accounts side by side. A personal Microsoft account and a work or school account cannot be merged, but both can be used on the same PC.

For OneDrive on the same PC:

Open the OneDrive cloud icon in the Windows notification area.
Select Help and Settings > Settings.
Open the Account tab.
Select Add an account.
Sign in with the other account.

This gives separate OneDrive locations for personal and work files. The storage stays separate:

work or school folders cannot be synced into personal OneDrive folders
files can be copied or dragged from one OneDrive to the other
only one personal OneDrive account can be added

For Microsoft 365 apps such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook:

Select the account profile in the app header.
Select Add an account.

For the setup described:

keep both OneDrive accounts signed in on the PC for separate file access
use the work account in Outlook and Teams
keep personal activity under the personal Microsoft account

If clearer separation is needed on the same device, Windows can also use different accounts on a shared PC so each account has its own files, browser favorites, and desktop settings.
