Please provide more information on the functions on your laptop/tablet you are now unable to use, is that the function keys (F1 - F12) on your keyboard or is it something else?

If the problem is the function keys, the actions associated to those keys are not controlled by Windows, because the actions vary from laptop to laptop, the actions are always controlled by the laptop manufacturer.

If pressing a function key does not produce the correct action, try pressing Fn + a function key to test if that works, if it does, press Fn + Esc to disable the function lock on the keyboard.

If that does not resolve the problem, boot your laptop into BIOS and look for a setting to toggle between the Function Keys and Action/Media keys.

    Try these steps in order:

    1. Restart the device A restart is the first recommended step for touchscreen and tablet input problems in Windows.
    2. Install all Windows updates, including optional updates In Windows 11:
      • Right-click Start > Settings > Windows Update > Advanced options
      • Turn Receive updates for other Microsoft products to On
      • Under Additional options, select Optional updates
      • Select all optional updates, then Download and install
      • Go back to Windows Update and select Check for updates
      • Install all available updates
      • Restart the device again
This is especially relevant after upgrading to Windows 11, because tablet features and touchscreen behavior can depend on updated hardware drivers.
    3. Disconnect nonessential external hardware Before troubleshooting further, unplug nonessential devices such as:
      • USB drives
      • Printers
      • Scanners
      • External drives
      • Speakers or headphones
If the device is docked, undock it.
    4. Remove non-Microsoft antivirus temporarily Non-Microsoft antivirus software can cause upgrade-related problems. If one is installed, uninstall it from Control Panel\Programs\Programs and Features, then restart and test tablet functions again.
    5. Remove nonessential older software Outdated software can also interfere after a Windows upgrade. Uninstall nonessential apps from Control Panel\Programs\Programs and Features and test again.
    6. If the problem is specifically the touchscreen If touch is still not working after the update steps above, use the touchscreen troubleshooting guidance. If it still fails after that, contact the device manufacturer.
    7. If the issue started only after the Windows 11 upgrade Windows upgrade issues are commonly fixed by the general steps above: updating Windows, removing external hardware, uninstalling non-Microsoft antivirus, and removing nonessential software.

If the problem is that Windows 11 is not recognizing the device correctly as a tablet or 2-in-1, tablet experiences depend on device configuration such as Enclosure Type, DeviceForm, and ConvertibleSlateMode. On Windows 11 version 22H2 and later, HKLM/System/CurrentControlSet/Control/PriorityControl/ConvertibilityEnabled can explicitly opt the device in or out of convertibility. Warning: changing registry values is risky and can affect device behavior if set incorrectly.
