Sending, receiving, and organizing email in Outlook.com
Microsoft support agents cannot check the backend for this or remove a block by manually changing account details.
For Microsoft account verification delivery issues, the supported actions are:
- Check whether the message is going to the correct mailbox. Verification emails can only be sent to the primary alias or another email added as a sign-in verification method.
- Check Junk Email for messages from
@accountprotection.microsoft.comand mark that sender as trusted. - Avoid repeated code requests. Excessive or repetitive requests can trigger a temporary block and stop codes from being sent.
- If SMS is involved, make sure the phone is not blocking unknown numbers, the inbox is not full, and the number is a mobile number rather than a VoIP number.
- If the alternate verification email is another Microsoft account such as
@outlook.com,@hotmail.com,@live.com, or@msn.com, use two private browsing windows so both accounts stay signed in at the same time:- In the first private window, sign in to the account requesting the code.
- Keep that window open.
- Open a second private window.
- Sign in to the alternate Microsoft email account there and retrieve the code.
- Return to the first window and enter the code.
- If another verification method is available, use that instead. If access to the current security info is lost, select I don't have any of these during sign-in and follow the prompts to replace security info.
- If the account is being blocked because of unusual activity, wait before trying again. Microsoft states that temporary blocks can happen because of unusual activity, high request volume, or traffic from a risky location. Do not keep retrying, because that can extend the block. Waiting 24 hours may help, and in some cases a longer wait is needed.
- If sign-in is still blocked, use the Microsoft sign-in helper or Contact Support. Support can route the issue, but agents still cannot send verification codes or directly change protected account details.
