Sending, receiving, and organizing email in Outlook.com
If the username hint shows s.*****@outl**o**, the account lookup has already found a matching Microsoft account. Use that hint to identify the full Outlook address and then sign in with that username.
If the full username is still not clear, use the username lookup flow:
- Go to Search and look up the username using the security phone number or email address on the account.
- Request a security code.
- Enter the code and select Next.
- Review the username hint that is shown.
If that still does not help, check places where the Microsoft account may already be signed in:
- Windows 10/11: Start > Settings > Accounts. Under Email & app accounts, check the usernames associated with the device.
- Office apps: Open Word or Excel, then go to File > Account. Under Product Information, check Belongs to.
- Email accounts: Check old Microsoft emails or receipts for purchases or subscriptions.
- Xbox: If the account was used there, check the Xbox account details.
If the username is found but the sign-in still says the account cannot be found, use the Sign-in Helper tool. If the username and password have stopped working, use Recover your account to reset the password with the email address, phone number, or Skype name used for sign-in.
If none of the recovery options work, use Contact Support. Support agents cannot send password reset links or change account details directly.
