Issue with Microsoft Word Android application on Android version 16 - Ribbon hiding the text area

Hi,

I recently upgraded my Android device to a Samsung Galaxy S24, and I noticed that in the "Edit" mode, the ribbon above the keyboard is hiding the line of text that I am typing, if I am modifying a document and I want to write on the last line (please see attached picture for illustration, as you can see the blue cursor is hidden by the floating cursor).

I did not have this issue on my previous device (Galaxy S10 Plus). Because of this issue, I cannot see what I am typing, as the ribbon is hiding the text.

Is there any way of fixing this issue?

Thanks,

    Hello Shing

Thank you for explaining the issue and including the screenshot. I understand how difficult it is to edit a document when the ribbon covers the line you are typing.

As an immediate workaround, try collapsing the ribbon by selecting the down arrow or the Edit icon. You can also switch to Mobile view, which is designed to optimize the document for editing on a phone.

Please also make sure Word is fully updated from the Google Play Store and then restart the phone.

If the problem continues, could you confirm:

    • The exact Word app version shown under Word Settings > About
    • Whether this happens in every document, including a new blank document
    • Which keyboard you are using, such as Samsung Keyboard or Gboard
    • Whether changing the keyboard temporarily makes any difference

These details will help determine whether the behavior is related to Word, the keyboard, or the Android 16 display layout.

If it affects every document after Word has been updated, please submit feedback from within the Word app so the diagnostic information can reach the product team.

I hope collapsing the ribbon or using Mobile view allows you to continue editing in the meantime.

Feel free reply back to this post if you need further assistance, I'll be happy to help.
