Why are the photos on my phone backing up to OneDrive FOR A SECOND TIME?

I have used OneDrive Backup successfully for the 14 months I have had my phone. I have never used Samsung Gallery Sync.

I noticed that the 14 photos I've added the past 3-days haven't backed up to my OneDrive Camera Roll. When I opened OneDrive to investigate, I found that OneDrive had decided to backup my photos all over again. More than 2,500 of them.

I have double-checked that the OneDrive backup settings are as they should be. I have a half dozen folders configured for backup. I cannot see any obvious changes to my configuration. As noted, I have never used Samsung Gallery Sync on this phone so there's no reason why the ending of support for that feature should affect me.

This can happen if OneDrive temporarily loses track of the existing Camera Roll backup, causing it to re-index the photos and upload them again.

Since you have never used Samsung Gallery Sync, the Gallery Sync changes should not be the cause. Before changing the backup settings or reinstalling OneDrive, check that the existing photos are already present in OneDrive and that the correct folders are still selected for backup.

If OneDrive continues re-uploading the same photos, try updating the app and restarting the backup process. If the issue persists, it may require investigation by Microsoft Support.
