1. Run a full malware scan on the PC or phone used to access the account before changing the password.

2. Recover and secure the Microsoft account.

   • Then change the password. If sign-in fails, use the password reset flow.
3. Review recent sign-in activity.
   • Go to the Security basics page and select Review activity.
   • If an activity is not recognized, select This wasn't me or Secure your account.
4. Change the Outlook.com language back.
   • Sign in to Outlook.com.
   • Select the gear icon in the upper-right.
   • Open Language and time under General.
   • Choose English and save.
   • Refresh the page.
5. Check account settings that are commonly changed after a compromise.
   • Review connected accounts
   • Review forwarding
   • Review automatic replies
6. If the account is blocked because of unusual activity, use the Sign-in Helper to unblock it.
7. If the security phone number or email shown during sign-in is not recognized, confirm the email address was typed correctly. If access to the old security info is lost, select I don't have any of these during sign-in and follow the prompts.
