How to fix scroll and zoom, 3-finger gestures and 4-finger gestures even if the options are enabled in settings?

i did something and after that when i restarted, cursor was slow everything feels lagging and i fixed cursor speed but now these 3 settings- scroll and zoom, 2-finger gestures and 3-finger gestures are not working but they are enabled in settings. Also, i checked everything in device manager, its updated. Also, i noticed that my laptop is generating more heat than before and charging is slow. are these all connected? if yes, then tell me how to fix it? my laptop is dell windows 11 Latitude 5400

I understand how inconvenient this is, especially when the touchpad options still appear enabled but the gestures no longer respond.

To narrow this down, could you clarify what you changed or installed before restarting the laptop? For example, did you install an update, change a driver, edit the Registry, or use a system optimization tool?

For the touchpad issue, please try these steps:

  • Open Settings > Bluetooth & devices > Touchpad, turn the touchpad off, restart the laptop, and then turn it back on.
  • Expand Scroll & zoom, Three-finger gestures, and Four-finger gestures, then temporarily change their selections and set them back to your preferred actions.
  • Open Settings > Windows Update > Advanced options > Optional updates and install any available driver updates.
  • Visit Dell’s support page for the Latitude 5400 and install the latest compatible touchpad, chipset, and Serial IO drivers for your exact device.
  • If the issue continues, open Device Manager, expand Human Interface Devices and Mice and other pointing devices, locate the touchpad device, and reinstall its driver. Restart the laptop afterward.

Please also test whether the gestures work in multiple applications. Some multi-finger gestures require the laptop to be detected as using a Precision Touchpad.

Regarding the increased heat and slow charging, check Task Manager for any process using unusually high CPU or disk resources. Please also confirm whether you are using the original Dell charger and whether Windows displays a “slow charger” warning. If the laptop becomes excessively hot, the battery swells, or charging remains unusually slow, stop using the device and run Dell hardware diagnostics or contact Dell Support, as the battery or charging hardware may need inspection.
