My current account is with an email that is being discontinued. My ongoing PERSONAL email is being rejected as "organizational". The fixes I see are all Windows-based.

Who is the email service provider for the email address you want to use that Microsoft is recognizing as an “organizational”?

Regardless, you can still add that address as security information so your 2FA verification codes are sent there instead of to the email address that will soon be discontinued.

Go to https://account.live.com > Security > Manage how I sign in > Email a code. Add the new email address there. Once it is added and verified, you can remove the old email address from your security information.

Even if Microsoft will not let you add the new address under Your info > Sign-in preferences as an alias, that does not prevent you from continuing to use the old email address as the username for your Microsoft account.

The sign-in address is essentially just an account identifier. Microsoft does not require that mailbox itself to remain active simply for you to use it as the username/alias. What is important is that you still have access to a working verification method for 2FA. That is why updating the email address under Security is the key step here.

The email MS thinks is personal is in fact organizational. But I'm closing my business. Once the domain goes away the email will too.

Rogers is the largest provider of internet services in Canada. Rejecting rogers.com is equivalent to rejecting yahoo.com. Those two companies are even connected.

Oh rogers.com, yeah, I am familiar with them. Whenever I visited Canada, my phone always roams on Rogers' network.

I did a search about Rogers, to find out the back-end platform they use for their service.

Basically, it confirms that Microsoft's commercial platform is what Rogers products are running on. This matters because Rogers have registered the rogers.com domain with Microsoft as a company or organization domain, and is using Microsoft's commercial product platform to run its services.

When Microsoft sees an email address ending in @rogers.com, it therefore recognizes it as belonging to an organization rather than as a normal personal email address, because Microsoft sees these services in the commercial ecosystem (Azure is all commercial), not in the consumer ecosystem.

Like I suggested yesterday, you can still continue to use the soon outdated email address as your alias, because it is just a username/symbolic identifier. As an alias, Microsoft doesn't require that email address to be actually in service. However, make sure you update the security contact info though. In Security > manage how I sign in, it should let you add rogers.com.
