Windows 11 Pro digital license lost after BIOS update —

If activation was lost after a BIOS update, use the built-in Activation troubleshooter first.

1. Open Start > Settings > System > Activation.
2. If Windows is not activated, select Troubleshoot.
3. If the device had a digital license linked to a Microsoft account, use the option for a recent hardware change and sign in with that Microsoft account.
4. Select the current device and complete reactivation.

Important checks:

• A significant hardware-related change can cause Windows to stop finding the matching digital license.
• The Microsoft account should be linked to the device’s digital license. On the Activation page, the expected status is Windows is activated with a digital license linked to your Microsoft account.
• An internet connection is required for activation.

If Windows was reinstalled or the edition changed, the installed edition must match the license:

• If there is a Windows 11 Pro digital license but Windows 11 Home is installed, in the troubleshooter select Upgrade to Windows 11 Pro and then Start upgrade.
• If there is a Windows 11 Home digital license but Windows 11 Pro is installed, Windows 11 Home must be installed to activate with that digital license.

If the troubleshooter does not fix it after the BIOS update, contact Microsoft customer support for activation help.
