I am purchasing another computer and I purchased Microsoft 365 personal in July 21, 2026. It comes with ability to add up to 5 computers. How do I go about installing 365 on this computer I will be purchasing?

    Refer to https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/answers/questions/5761103/installing-office-365-on-other-devices

To install Office 365 on another device, I have outlined the available options in detail:

1/ If your license is linked to a personal Microsoft account

    • Please sign in at account.microsoft.com/services using the email address you used for activation.
    • Under Services & Subscriptions, you should see your Office or Publisher license. From there, you can download and install the software on your new PC.
    • You can also manage or remove existing device installations from this page if you have reached the 5‑device limit.

2/ If your license is linked to a company account

If your subscription was provided by your organization (Microsoft 365 Business or Enterprise), please note that Microsoft 365 Business Basic and some web-only licenses do not include desktop Office applications and only provide access to Office on the web.

    • So if your license includes desktop apps (for example: Business Standard, Business Premium, or Enterprise plans), you can install Office by signing in to https://portal.office.com
    • Then go to Apps > All apps > Install apps.
    • User's image
    • If you are unsure about your license type, you may go directly to the Subscriptions page to review your license details at: https://portal.office.com/account

For detailed guidance, you can refer to this Microsoft's article: Download and install apps - Microsoft Support.

    Hi, @Gary E Perkins

Yes, you can install your Microsoft 365 Personal subscription on the new computer without purchasing another subscription.

Before installing it, check if the new computer already has Microsoft Office, Microsoft 365, or an Office trial installed.

If it does, uninstall the existing Office installation first to avoid possible activation or license conflicts:

    • Open the Control Panel > Programs > Programs and Features.
    • Look for any version of Microsoft Office or Office apps, right-click, then choose Uninstall. Please uninstall all Office apps.
    • Once that’s done, restart your computer just to be safe.

    Then, to reinstall Microsoft Office:

    • Go to https://account.microsoft.com/services
    • Sign in using the same Microsoft account linked to your license.
    • Find your Microsoft 365 Subscription and click the "Install".
    • That will download the installer for the Office apps, just run it and follow the steps.

If anything’s unclear or the "Install" option still doesn’t show, feel free to let me know. I’ll be happy to walk you through it!

Microsoft 365 Personal is tied to the Microsoft account used to buy it, not to one specific computer. To install it on the new computer:

    1. On the new computer, sign in to the Microsoft account dashboard at https://account.microsoft.com.
    2. Sign in with the same Microsoft account used to purchase Microsoft 365 Personal.
    3. Open Subscriptions.
    4. Select Install Microsoft 365.
    5. In the install dialog, choose the language and version, then select Install.
    6. Run the downloaded installer and complete setup.
    7. After installation, open an app such as Word or Excel and sign in with the same Microsoft account if prompted to activate it.

Microsoft 365 subscriptions can be installed on all devices and signed in on five devices at the same time.

If the new computer is a Mac, open Finder > Downloads, double-click Microsoft Office installer.pkg, then follow the installer prompts.
