Using New Outlook on Windows for professional communication and productivity
If the emails are missing from the folder view, check these in order:
- Check whether the messages are only hidden by the current view.
- In Outlook, open the affected folder.
- Select View > View Settings > Filter.
- Review filters such as Date received, Read/Unread status, Sender/Recipient, Importance, and Size.
- Remove any filter that could hide today’s or this week’s messages.
- If this started after a recent Windows update and search is not showing recent mail, rebuild the Outlook search index.
- In Outlook, select File > Options > Search.
- Select Indexing Options > Advanced.
- Under Troubleshooting, select Rebuild.
- The index rebuild can take a couple of days.
- If the mailbox is in Cached mode and messages exist in Outlook on the web but not in the desktop Inbox, clear offline items for the Inbox and resync.
- Right-click Inbox > Properties.
- On the General tab, select Clear Offline Items.
- Confirm removal from the .ost file.
- Select OK, then select the Inbox and press Shift+F9 to force resynchronization.
- If the issue is specific to Cached mode, Outlook can also be started with the following switch to clear stuck incoming item processing:
Then check whether the missing messages reappear.Outlook.exe /cleanips - If the missing mail is in Outlook.com or Outlook on the web, also check:
- Junk Email
- Deleted Items and Recover items deleted from this folder
- Filter set to All
- Rules settings
- Other tab if Focused Inbox is enabled
