Why did my entire Google screen change today and why is MSN covering the bottom half of the screen?

Today, September 9/2026 my entire Microsoft 365 decided to change. MSN crap is covering half of the bottom of my screen. My screen is clearly in "dark" mode and yet nowhere does it indicate that it is - therefore I can't turn it off. What happened today and how do I get back to what I had yesterday. I REALLY HATE that you people keep screwing around thinking you're "improving" things. You AREN'T.

Two separate settings are likely involved:

    1. MSN covering part of the screen in Edge This matches the Microsoft Edge start page or home page being changed. Try this in Edge:
      1. Open Edge.
      2. In the address bar, open edge://settings/startHomeNTP.
      3. Under On Startup, select Open custom Sites if needed.
      4. If MSN is set there, remove it or change it.
      5. If the page itself shows a gear icon, open it and turn off New MSN Homepage to switch back to the classic MSN page.
    2. Dark or half-dark display across Windows or apps If Windows looks dark, switch Windows back to light mode:
      1. Open Start > Settings > Personalization > Colors.
      2. In Choose your mode or Choose your color, select Light or Windows (light).
If the screen still looks inverted or unusually dark:
      1. Press Windows logo key+U.
      2. Open Accessibility > Color filters.
      3. Turn off Color filters.
      4. If colors look reversed, make sure Inverted is not selected.
    3. If only Microsoft 365 apps look dark In Word, Excel, or PowerPoint:
      1. Open the app.
      2. Go to File > Options > General.
      3. Change Office Theme to White or Use system setting.
    4. If apps are stuck in a mixed light/dark appearance Try restoring the Windows default theme:
      1. Press Windows key+R.
      2. Enter shell:::{ED834ED6-4B5A-4bfe-8F11-A626DCB6A921} and press Enter.
      3. Under Windows default, select Windows or Windows (light).
      4. Restart the computer.
