The screenshot shows this error:
The update certification has expired. Make sure date, time, and time zone settings are correct and we'll try to install the update later.
Try these steps in order:
- Check date, time, and time zone
Go to Settings > Time & language > Date & time and make sure the device date, time, and time zone are correct. - Manually check for updates again
Go to Settings > Windows Update and select Check for updates. - Confirm the device is still properly enrolled in Windows Insider
Go to Settings > Windows Update > Windows Insider Program and verify that:- the Windows Insider Program is activated on the device
- a channel is selected
- Check whether the device is already on the latest build for that channel
Compare the installed build with the latest build listed in Flight Hub. - Check for known issues with the current or next Insider build
Known issues can block new Insider updates. Recent Insider flight notes should be reviewed for the build path being used. - Run the Windows Update troubleshooter
In Windows 11, go to:- Start > Settings > System
- Troubleshoot > Other troubleshooters
- Find Windows Update and select Run
- If updates still fail, reset Windows Update components
This is an advanced step and requires administrator permissions. It changes Windows Update cache folders. Open Command Prompt as administrator and run these commands one at a time:
Then restart the PC and check for updates again.net stop bits net stop wuauserv ren %systemroot%\softwaredistribution softwaredistribution.bak ren %systemroot%\system32\catroot2 catroot2.bak net start bits net start wuauserv - If third-party antivirus or security software is installed, temporarily remove it
Some third-party security software can interfere with Windows updates. Reinstall it after the device is updated. Before uninstalling, make sure the reinstall method and any required product keys are available.
If the device is on an expired Insider build, correcting the date/time settings and rechecking Windows Update is the first thing to do. If that does not clear the error, the next most relevant checks are Insider enrollment, latest build availability for the selected channel, and Windows Update troubleshooting.
