Try these steps in order:
- Restart the PC If updates are pending, use Update and restart if that option appears. A restart can clear temporary sign-in issues.
- Check whether the account is using a password or PIN
On the sign-in screen, select Sign-in options if available.
- If the account is a local account, use that local account password.
- If the account is tied to a Microsoft account, use the Microsoft account password.
- If available, select I forgot my password or I forgot my PIN on the sign-in screen.
- Check the network connection from the lock screen
Some sign-in scenarios require internet access.
- Select Network on the lock screen.
- If Wi‑Fi is unstable, connect with an Ethernet cable if possible.
- Try another account if one exists On the sign-in screen, select another account from the lower-left corner, or choose Other user and enter that account’s credentials. If another admin account can sign in, review the existing accounts afterward.
- Try Safe Mode again using the full path
Safe Mode only allows password sign-in, not PIN or biometrics.
- On the sign-in screen, hold Shift and select Power > Restart.
- Go to Troubleshoot > Advanced options > Startup Settings > Restart.
- After restart, select 5 or press F5 for Safe Mode with Networking.
- If Safe Mode still does not work
A known Windows sign-in issue can occur when the system logs on and logs off immediately. In that case, the problem can involve the Winlogon registry path used to load
explorer.exeanduserinit.exe:HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon - If the system can reach recovery tools, run System File Checker
If command access is available from recovery or Safe Mode, run:
This checks for and repairs corrupted Windows system files.SFC /scannow - If password recovery is needed If the account is local and password reset options do not work, Microsoft support cannot retrieve or bypass a lost or forgotten password.
- If none of the above works Use the public support path:
