    Hi,

Go to the Start menu > Settings > Bluetooth & Devices > Printers & Scanners > and uncheck the options "Let Windows manage my default printer" and "Always use my default printer."

You can then open the document, press Ctrl+P, and check if the list of printers appears; if it does, select the printer and set it as the default.

    Thanks

This usually means Windows or the app is trying to print to a file or to a virtual printer such as Microsoft Print to PDF, instead of sending the job to the physical printer.

    Try these steps in order:

    1. In the print window, check which printer is selected.
      • Make sure the selected printer is the actual printer.
      • Do not select Microsoft Print to PDF or another virtual printer.
    2. Check whether the printer is set to Print to File.
      • Open Control Panel.
      • Select Devices and Printers.
      • Right-click the printer and select Printer Properties.
      • Open the Ports tab.
      • If the port is set to Print to File, change it to the correct port for the printer.
    3. Set the real printer as the default printer.
      • Go to Start > Settings > Devices > Printers & scanners.
      • Select the printer.
      • Select Manage.
      • Select Set as default.
    4. Restart the print spooler service.
      • Press Windows key + R, type services.msc, and press Enter.
      • Find Print Spooler.
      • Right-click it and select Restart.
    5. If that does not help, clear and reset the print spooler. This deletes stuck print jobs.
      • In the taskbar search box, type services, then open Services.
      • Double-click Print Spooler.
      • Select Stop > OK.
      • In the taskbar search box, enter %WINDIR%\system32\spool\printers and open that folder.
      • Delete all files in the folder.
      • Go back to Services.
      • Double-click Print Spooler.
      • Select Start.
      • Set Startup Type to Automatic and select OK.
    6. Update or reinstall the printer driver.
      • Select Start > Device Manager.
      • Expand Printers.
      • Right-click the printer and select Update driver.
      • If no update is found, select Uninstall device, then restart the PC so Windows can reinstall the printer.
    7. If needed, remove and add the printer again.
      • Go to Printers & scanners.
      • If the printer is missing, select Add a printer or scanner and add it again.

If the printer still prompts for a file name after these steps, the most likely cause is still that the wrong printer or wrong port is selected.
