Hello,

I'm helping an associate log into Miscrosoft To Do for the first time using his work email. We use Outlook Exchange and none of the options presented recognize his email address. We tried using the other sign in options and using a passkey/QR code was the only option that seemed feasible (USB passkey and GIthub were alternative options that we don't have access to). We followed the instructions on aka.ms/passkey (all three scenarios: Microsoft accountWork/school account and Any other account to try and create a passkey, but were unsuccessful. In order to create a passkey you have to log into your microsoft account. In order to log into your microsoft account, you need a passkey. We also tried to create a new MS To Do account using his work email, but Microsoft recognized that this email already exists. However, on the very next sign in screen it suddenly doesn't get recognized anymore. Please advise.

    Hi Emily,

Based on your information, Microsoft To Do does not create a separate To Do account, and a passkey is not normally required for a first Microsoft To Do sign-in. The associate must sign in with the existing Microsoft 365 work or school account provided by the organization.

For the best possible assistance in this case, I need to verify whether what is “Outlook Exchange” environment that you're currently using:

    • If the mailbox is hosted on an on-premises Exchange Server, Microsoft To Do is generally not supported unless the user also has an Exchange Online mailbox in Microsoft 365.
    • If the mailbox is in Exchange Online, the user must have an appropriate license, an active Exchange Online mailbox, and the Microsoft To Do service enabled. To Do stores and synchronizes work-account tasks through Exchange Online.

I want to ensure that the information is clear enough so I can provide appropriate guidance for your concern. With your help and more detailed information, we can work together to resolve this concern.

Should you have any further questions, please feel free to share them in the comments below. I'm very happy to help.
