Hello Gary Kirouac
I can see that the earlier suggestions did not resolve this.
Based on your newest reply, Read Aloud starts, reads only a few words, and then causes Word for Android to crash. Since you have already uninstalled and reinstalled the app, I do not want to repeat the same troubleshooting steps.
You should not need to purchase another application or subscription to resolve this, and I recommend avoiding any third-party apps that request unexpected recurring payments.
To help determine whether this is document-specific or an issue with Word on the Galaxy S24 FE, could you test Read Aloud with a newly created blank document containing a few sentences?
- If the new document works, the problem may be limited to the original document.
- If Word also crashes with the new document, please note the Word app version, Android version, whether you are using the standalone Microsoft Word app or Microsoft 365 Copilot app, and whether the same behavior occurs with more than one document.
- For the computer issue, please also specify whether it is Windows or macOS and describe exactly what happens when Read Aloud is started.
Because the app is closing unexpectedly after the feature begins reading, this may require investigation beyond what can be performed in a community forum.
Please submit a diagnostic report from the Microsoft 365 app by selecting your profile picture and choosing Send Feedback. Include the Galaxy S24 FE model, the app version, and the exact crash sequence. If Word closes before feedback can be submitted, please contact Microsoft Support and provide the same information. Here is how to contact them
As a no-cost temporary alternative on Android, you can use the built-in TalkBack screen reader to read document content. This is an Android accessibility feature and does not require purchasing a third-party reader.

- Open a website link - Contact - Microsoft Support
- In the box below "We're here to help", type Microsoft 365, click "Get Help", and then click "Contact Support" below.
- In this section, you will need to sign in to your Microsoft account.
- Select "Microsoft 365 and Office" under Products & Services, select "Technical Support" as the category, and click to confirm
- You can select " Chat with a support agent in your web browser " to access the chat window.
I understand why this is frustrating, especially because the feature worked the first time. Reporting the reproducible crash with the device and app-version details gives Microsoft the information needed to investigate it properly.
