SharePoint site access requests do nothing when accepted.

When a user submits an access request and it goes to the owner, when it is approved with permissions it doesn't give that user any permissions nor does it alert the user that the access has been granted. This only seems to be the case for site requests and folder/file requests still seem to working.

Any solutions would be great

    Dear @Josh Potts,

Good day! Welcome to Microsoft Q&A forum!

Based on your description, I understand that SharePoint site access requests are being approved by site owners, but the requested users are not receiving the granted permissions or any notification that access has been approved. This issue appears to affect site access requests only, while file and folder access requests continue to work as expected.

To understand the situation better and provide you with the most suitable support, could you confirm the following information:

    • Is this occurring on a single SharePoint site or across multiple sites?
    • Are all users affected, or only specific users?
    • Are there any error messages shown to the site owner during the approval process?
    • Have you recently made any changes to site permissions, groups, or sharing settings?
    • Is the affected site a Team site, Communication site, or a site connected to a Microsoft 365 Group?
    • Have you tested the behavior with a different user account by submitting a new site access request, and if so, does the issue occur consistently?

Your confirmation would be very helpful in ensuring you receive the most suitable support! If you’re able to share a bit more about your situation, I might be able to suggest some helpful next steps.

Kindly let me know when there are updates or if you need further assistance. Any updates you’re able to share would be really helpful. I appreciate your time and look forward to hearing how things are going!

Thank you for your time and patience.
