Azure for Students verification link gives "The client does not have access rights to the content"

Hello,

I am trying to register for Azure for Students using my personal Microsoft account.

During registration, I entered my university email address for academic verification. I successfully receive the verification email, but when I click the verification link I get the following error:

"The client does not have access rights to the content."

The same error occurs.

I have not yet been able to create the Azure for Students subscription because the academic verification cannot be completed.

Could a Microsoft moderator please advise how I can resolve the academic verification issue or have the verification process reviewed?

Root Cause :

When you click the verification link, Microsoft checks:

Which account is currently signed in in the browser

Which account started the Azure for Students registration

Which account the verification token belongs to

If these do not match exactly, the verification page returns:

The client does not have access rights to the content.

Solution :

Please try to login with any browser In-Cognito mode. try to login and register with your user name password.

Hi @Senthil kumar , thank you for your suggestion. I followed your instructions and tried signing in through an InPrivate window. This time, my academic status was successfully verified, and the verification page confirmed: “Your academic status has been successfully verified.” However, I still don't have an Azure for Students subscription. In Education → Overview, it continues to show “Sign up for Azure for students,” and under Azure Portal → Subscriptions, no subscription is listed. I also noticed that when I attempt the process in my normal browser session, I receive the following error: “Selected user account does not exist in tenant 'Microsoft Services' and cannot access the application 'my-id' in that tenant. The account needs to be added as an external user in the tenant first. Please use a different account.” I have masked the application ID above for privacy. Could this account/tenant issue be preventing the Azure for Students subscription from being provisioned? If so, could you please advise me on how to resolve it ? Thank you.

Go to:

https://account.microsoft.com → Your info → Manage how you sign in to Microsoft

Look for:

Your school email listed as a primary alias

Or your school email listed as a login alias

If your school email is set as the primary alias, subscription provisioning often breaks.

Fix:

Set your personal email (Outlook/Hotmail/Gmail) as the primary alias

Keep your school email only as a secondary alias

Do not remove the school email — it is needed for verification**https://account.microsoft.com → Your info → Manage how you sign in to Microsoft** Look for:

Because your normal browser session still forces the wrong tenant:

Sign out of all Microsoft sites

Clear cookies for microsoft.com, live.com, azure.com

Close all browser windows

@Senthil kumar Thank you for the suggestion. I checked account.microsoft.com → Your info → Manage how you sign in to Microsoft, but my college email is not listed there at all. Only my personal email is associated with the account.

My college email was used for the academic verification, and the verification now shows “Your academic status has been successfully verified,” but I still don't see an Azure for Students subscription.

Could you please advise me on what I should do next in this case? Should I add my college email somewhere, or is there another way to resolve the subscription provisioning issue?
