Microsoft Family issues

Hi,

I'm about to lose it!

I have had to set up a Microsoft family account as I got my daughter a Lenovo laptop for school which has frozen and now nobody can get access to it. It uses microsoft so despite not setting up a 'Family' or screen restrictions the software has taken it upon itself to locked down presumably due to her age on her Microsoft account and she can't use it. I'm frantically trying to set up Microsoft family so I can change the screen time to unlimited for during school use (the school put on own restrictions etc so I know it is safe).

My daughter has accepted invitation and can see it on her account. On my account it still says pending after hours of waiting. I sent a further invite which my daughter than tried to accept to see if that helped but it says she can't as already part of a family group which she needs to delete first, which she can't do as I would need to delete from my adult account where it is not appearing.

I'm begging for help as my daughter is days into secondary school without the laptop that shoudl be making her life easier not harder

Thank you,

Lucy

    Hi Lucy Millar,

I can understand how frustrating this must be, especially when your daughter needs the laptop for school.

Based on what you've described, it sounds like your daughter's Microsoft account has successfully joined the family group on her side, but that change hasn't synchronized correctly to your organizer account yet. As a result, her account believes it's already part of a family group, while your account still shows the invitation as pending.

    Please try the following:

    1. Sign in to both:
    2. Check whether your daughter appears as a family member in either location.
    3. Sign out of both Microsoft accounts and sign back in, then check the family status again.
    4. If your daughter's account shows that she's already part of a family, but your organizer account still cannot see or manage her membership, this usually indicates a synchronization issue with the family group configuration.

If the family relationship remains stuck, you'll likely need to contact Microsoft Support for Microsoft Accounts/Family Safety so they can review the family group and remove any orphaned or incomplete family associations from the backend.

In the meantime, if another administrator account exists on the laptop, you may be able to use that account as a temporary workaround until the family group issue is resolved.

I hope you're able to get this sorted quickly so your daughter can get back to using her laptop for school.
