Losing Publisher is a disaster, how are people doing the same thing that Publisher did?

Is there anything out there that works EXACTLY like Publisher does? I DO NOT use AI. I am freaking out and have lost time.

When I received the horrible news that Publisher was going away, I was devastated. I have not been able to re-create any thing that I was able to do within Publisher on Canva, on Word, on Designer.....none of these works like Publisher did.

I make magnets, mainly for ourselves, but had thought about making a business out of it but now I'm stuck without Publisher.

What I would do is create a magnet by pulling pieces of design and putting it into a Publisher page. And whenever I needed to later, I could pull a magnet from one page and put it on a separate page, I could pull elements from each magnet and make adjustments as needed. I had complete control over every element that I put in Publisher. Nothing is giving me that same control. Word doesn't have the specific tools that Publisher had. And with Canva or Design, once the page is made and downloaded, I am unable pull individual elements from that page.

I can clearly make individual magnets with Canva or Design but I have to put these elements into a page for printing and be able to manipulate them for printing on a magnetic sheet. Apparently, my needs are so singular that no one else is bothered by the loss of Publisher. I have tried using Word as I did Publisher and I worked at it till I screamed.

I completely understand why this is upsetting. Your workflow needs a desktop-publishing program, not a template-based design service.

For the closest experience, it is recommended that you try Affinity’s page-layout software first. It provides a free-form page, separate movable objects, layers, grouping, precise sizing, duplication, and multi-page layouts. That should let you build each magnet from editable parts, group it, duplicate or move it to a separate print sheet, then ungroup it whenever changes are needed. It does not require you to use AI. For a free alternative, LibreOffice Draw is worth testing. It works offline and may open many .pub files directly, although complex layouts may require correction. Scribus is another free desktop-publishing option with strong print controls, but its interface is less beginner-friendly.

None will feel exactly identical on day one, so I would rebuild one magnet and one full magnetic sheet in Affinity first. Keep every magnet grouped as an editable object rather than downloading it as a flattened picture.
