For Outlook on the web and Outlook for Mac, check these items in order:
- Confirm the account is eligible. Only Microsoft account users with a qualifying Microsoft 365 subscription such as Microsoft 365 Personal, Family, or Premium have access to Copilot in Microsoft 365. For Microsoft account subscriptions, only the subscription owner can use Copilot in the desktop apps.
- Verify the license on the same account used in Outlook. Sign in to the Microsoft account dashboard and confirm the active subscription. If using Windows 11, the licensed Microsoft 365 subscription can also be viewed from Start by selecting the account.
- For Outlook on the web, refresh the page. If Copilot still does not appear, third-party cookies may be blocked. That can prevent license validation.
- For Outlook for Mac, refresh the license.
In any Microsoft 365 app:
- Select the app name menu at the top.
- Select About <app name>.
- Select More Info...
- Select Refresh License.
- Close open documents and restart all Microsoft 365 apps.
- Check privacy settings on Mac.
In Word, go to Word > Preferences > Privacy and confirm:
- Experiences that analyze your content is turned on.
- All connected experiences is turned on.
- Check Outlook privacy requirement. Copilot is accessible in Outlook apps for Windows, Mac, iOS, Android, and the web as long as Connected Experiences is not turned off in Outlook privacy settings.
- If using a non-Microsoft email account in new Outlook, link accounts.
If the mailbox is a third-party account such as Gmail, Yahoo, or iCloud, premium features in Outlook, including Copilot, are available by linking that account to a Microsoft 365 subscription with the same email identity:
- View tab > View settings or File tab > Account info
- Accounts > Your accounts
- Choose the account and select Manage
- Select Link Accounts
If Copilot works in other Microsoft 365 apps but still does not appear in Outlook after these checks, the remaining documented causes are typically license/account state or privacy settings.
