I have Windows 11 notebook that twice in a few days has shown AppVIsvSubsystems64.dll file missing. When this happens we can't open any Microsoft 365 product. Twice we have had to uninstall Windows 365 reboot computer and reinstall Windows 365.

Can any tell me why this is happening I do not see any updates to operating system prior to this. Also no new programs have been installed before either failure.

Thanks for your thoughts.

Hi Tim,

This error can occur if a symbolic link to AppVIsvSubsystems64.dll is broken or the DLL is corrupt. If you have another system with Office installed, sourcing the DLL from it can help.

Alternatively, an online repair should fix the issue,

  • Open Settings → Apps → Installed apps (or Apps & features, depending on Windows version).
  • Select the Microsoft 365 or Office product you want to repair and select Modify.
  • Select it and choose Modify.
  • When prompted, choose Online Repair (not Quick Repair), then start the repair.
