Unable to verify identity for Azure for Students for free

I have a microsoft account through my university. I can go to the Azure portal through my login. I can select the Education Service, but I cannot access any of the software. I see a banner that prompts me to sign up for Azure for Students for free. When I input all of my information and verify that I am a human, I get a message saying Unable to confirm your University ID. What do I need to do? My university says they can't help me.

    Welcome to Microsoft Q&A!

    Hello @Philip Williams

This error occurs when Microsoft’s verification system can’t validate your school domain or enrollment status. Since this check is on Microsoft’s side, your university helpdesk can’t fix it directly.

    Try these self-service options:

    1. Use a personal account in InPrivate mode

    • Open an InPrivate/Incognito window.
    • Go to the Azure for Students page and click Start free.
    • Sign in with a personal Microsoft account (e.g., @outlook.com).
    • When prompted, enter your university email and the verification code sent to your inbox.

    2. Verify through GitHub Student Developer Pack

    • Apply for the GitHub Student Developer Pack (they accept manual document uploads).
    • Once approved, go to the Azure Student Verification Portal in a private window and select Sign in with GitHub – Azure will inherit your verified status.
