re activation after hardwre change

I recently replaced the motherboard, processor and RAM. This required mbr2gpt to make the SSD compatible with the new hardware. I have lost the activation and can not reactivate it with the product key (taken from the backup in the registry). I have tried to call customer support since I believe this is the only way to resolve this issue, or is it? Are there any suggestions for a way I may not have tried?

The key in the registry is not a valid key, it is more of a generic/placeholder key, not for activation purpose.

License key is NOT stored anywhere in Windows, unless it is an OEM license embedded to the motherboard, which will be gone if motherboard is replaced,

The registry backup may contain a generic installation key rather than the original transferable license key. Changing from MBR to GPT does not normally affect activation, but replacing the motherboard creates a new hardware identity.

Besides the solutions provided by the Q&A Assist, here are some suggestions you can try:

Press Windows key + R, enter slui 4, and press Enter. Select your country or region, then use the displayed Installation ID with the offline Product Activation Portal. Enter the Confirmation ID you receive to complete activation. Offline activation is specifically available when normal online activation does not complete.

Open Command Prompt as administrator and run:

slmgr /dlv

Check the Description and Product Key Channel. If it shows Retail, the license may be transferable. If it shows OEM_DM or OEM, it was likely supplied with the original motherboard and normally cannot be moved.

If the license was purchased separately, check the purchase email, retail package, or Microsoft account order history for the original key. Do not rely on a key recovered from the registry, since Windows may display a default key instead of the actual OEM key.

If no transferable retail license can be verified, purchasing a new license may be necessary.

After a motherboard replacement, Windows 10 may no longer activate because the license is associated with the device hardware. The supported paths are:

Run the Activation troubleshooter if Windows is not activated.
- Go to Start > Settings > Update & Security > Activation > Troubleshoot.
- This requires an internet connection and administrator access.
- If the troubleshooter cannot fix it, it can offer the reactivate after a hardware change path.
If there is a valid 25-character product key, enter it from:
- Start > Settings > Update & Security > Activation > Change product key
If the motherboard was replaced by the original hardware manufacturer (OEM), the PC should reactivate automatically. If it does not, use the 25-character key from the COA card if one was provided:
- Start > Settings > Update & Security > Activation > Change product key
Check that the installed edition matches the license.
- In Start > Settings > Update & Security > Activation, verify whether the device is running Windows 10 Home or Windows 10 Pro.
