I am able to personalize the desktop, but when I log off and open up again the picture reverts back to a black screen. How do I keep the picture on the screen?

    Try these checks in order:

    1. Check accessibility settings that can force a black background.
      • Open Control Panel.
      • Set View by to Large icons.
      • Open Ease of Access Center.
      • Select Make it easier to focus on tasks.
      • If Remove background image (where available) is enabled, turn it off and select Apply.
    2. Check contrast themes.
      • Open Settings > Accessibility > Contrast themes.
      • Make sure it is set to None.
      • A contrast theme can replace the wallpaper with a black background.
    3. Restart Windows Explorer to refresh the desktop.
      • Press Ctrl + Shift + Esc to open Task Manager.
      • Find Windows Explorer.
      • Right-click it and select Restart.
    4. Turn off sign-in preference restore if the black background returns after sign-in.
      • Open Settings > Accounts > Windows backup.
      • Turn off Remember my preferences.
      • Sign out, then sign back in.

If the wallpaper still does not persist, the issue can be caused by a temporary personalization problem rather than the image itself.

    Hi,

If the Q&A Assist steps didn't work, do you have any customization software installed?

Check if you are in "Picture" mode and if the selected photo is in the chosen folder.

Start menu > Settings > Personalization > Background > Mode: select "Picture" > Browse.

Then go to the "Themes" tab > "Save theme" and name it whatever you like.

If that doesn't work, open the Command Prompt (as administrator) and run the following commands: sfc /scannow and dism /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth. Wait for the process to finish and restart your computer.

Then perform a clean boot and uninstall any applications you don't use.

If that doesn't work, try using Lively Wallpaper to see if it maintains the wallpaper.

    Thanks.
