An integrated threat protection solution designed to detect, investigate, and respond to cyber threats across Microsoft 365 services.
Members of a shared Microsoft 365 Family/Premium subscription use Microsoft Defender by installing the Microsoft Defender app on their own devices and signing in with their own personal Microsoft account that is part of the subscription.
Steps:
- On each person’s device, install Microsoft Defender from the app store, or use the Defender download link/QR code.
- Sign in to Defender with that member’s personal Microsoft account associated with the shared subscription.
- Repeat on each device they want to protect.
Key details:
- Each person can protect up to 5 devices with Microsoft Defender.
- After sign-in, the device appears on that person’s Microsoft Defender dashboard.
- From within Defender, Add devices can be used to send or copy an install link, email a link, scan a QR code, or share the link through mobile share options.
- If Defender was previously installed on a device, reopening the app and signing in again is enough. If it was uninstalled, reinstall it and sign in again.
- On Android devices managed with Google Family Link, Microsoft Defender must be allowed Storage Permissions in the Family Link app.
If the goal is family visibility, Microsoft 365 Family subscribers can have family organizers see shared device security or identity monitoring status when members choose to share that status.
