I have a wireless microsoft surface mouse that won't connect anymore with my laptop

My wireless mouse does not appear in the devices to pair. Just all of the sudden it's not there and it won't work. It is an external mouse that does not have an on/off button. I bought it from Microsoft. The batteries are new. I just can't get it to pair anymore. It's not in my list of devices on bluetooth.

Any suggestions?

    Hi Maureen Akal,

I understand how frustrating it is when your mouse suddenly disappeared from Bluetooth devices, especially since the batteries are new and no button was found on the device. Since you've probably tried the common troubleshooting steps, it would help to identify the exact Surface mouse model before going further. Could you please provide:

    • The exact model name of the mouse (check the bottom of the mouse)
    • Photos of the mouse (top, bottom, including any labels, battery compartment)
    • In addition, a photo of the battery compartment after removing the cover (if possible)
    • If you still have the box or/and the manual of the mouse, it's also worth checking them.

Once we can identify the mouse model, we can provide more accurate troubleshooting steps. Right now, giving guidance would be generic solutions and likely won't help with your case. Also, it'll be helpful if you end up needing repair/replacement service.

    Try this in order:

    1. Put the mouse into pairing mode.
      • Press and hold the pairing button on the bottom of the mouse for 5–7 seconds, then release it.
      • The light should blink. That means the mouse is discoverable.
    2. Pair it again in Windows.
      • Go to Start > Settings > Devices > Bluetooth & other devices.
      • Make sure Bluetooth is turned on.
      • Select Add Bluetooth or other device > Bluetooth.
      • If the mouse appears, select it and finish pairing.
    3. If the mouse still does not appear:
      • Press and hold the pairing button again for 5–7 seconds and confirm the light blinks.
      • If the light does not come on, recheck the batteries even if they are new.
      • Turn Airplane mode on for 10–15 seconds, then turn it off.
      • Turn off other Bluetooth devices connected to the laptop, because too many Bluetooth devices can interfere with the connection.
    4. Remove and re-pair the mouse.
      • If the mouse name is still listed anywhere under Bluetooth devices, remove it from the laptop and pair it again.
    5. Check whether it is paired to another PC.
      • If the pairing light flashes three times and then turns off, the mouse is already paired to another PC nearby.
      • Remove the mouse from that other PC first, then return to the laptop and pair it again.
    6. Test whether the issue is the mouse or the laptop.
      • Try pairing the mouse with another PC.
      • If it works there, the problem is likely with the laptop Bluetooth connection.
    7. Update Windows.
      • Go to Start > Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update and install available updates.

If the mouse is not showing up in Bluetooth at all after these steps, use the Windows Bluetooth troubleshooting guidance in Fix Bluetooth problems in Windows.
