SHOULD WINDOWS 11 NEED "LOCK THE TASKBAR" FEATURE LIKE WINDOWS 10 THAT CAN MOVE TASKBAR ON 4 EDGES OF SCREEN AFTER KB5120998 UPDATE?

Windows 11 now supports moving the taskbar to the bottom, top, left, or right after KB5120998 on supported devices. The setting is at Settings > Personalization > Taskbar > Taskbar behaviors > Taskbar position.

A separate Lock the taskbar control can still be useful because it serves a different purpose than taskbar positioning:

• Taskbar position changes where the taskbar appears.
• Lock the taskbar prevents accidental changes after the preferred layout is set.

That distinction already exists in Windows taskbar behavior guidance. The taskbar settings include Lock the taskbar as a behavior setting, and policy support also exists to lock taskbar settings or prevent moving the taskbar:

• TaskbarLockAll locks all taskbar settings.
• TaskbarNoRedock prevents moving the taskbar to another screen dock location.

So, after KB5120998, adding or exposing an easy end-user Lock the taskbar option alongside the new Taskbar position setting would be consistent with how taskbar behavior has been managed in Windows. It would complement the new 4-edge positioning feature by helping keep the chosen layout fixed.
