Sorry to hear you're having trouble.

I just wanted to mention that as well as the information already posted the account you're alias must not already be associated with another (Microsoft/Xbox) account. If your new account is not associated with another account already and you change it and set it as primary it will swap over the information associated with your games account. But if you do this and delete the old email address then Microsoft/Xbox will think that you no longer need the email address and will permanently delete it.

To change the email used with a Microsoft account, add the new email as an alias, make it primary, and then update the security verification methods if codes are still going to the old address.

    1. Go to Manage how you sign in to Microsoft: https://account.live.com/names/manage
    2. Select Add email.
    3. Add the new email address and complete verification.
    4. Select Make primary for the new alias.
    5. Remove the old email only after the new one is added and working.

    Important details:

    • Aliases on a Microsoft account share the same password, contacts, storage, subscriptions, and settings.
    • Verification codes sent by email can only be sent to the primary alias or another email added as a way to verify sign in.

If Microsoft is still sending codes to the old email, update the security info:

    1. Go to the Security tab: https://account.microsoft.com/security
    2. Select Manage how I sign in.
    3. Select Add a new way to sign in or verify.
    4. Add a new recovery email, Microsoft Authenticator, or another available verification method.
    5. Remove the old verification email if it still appears.

If access to the old verification method is already lost, use the sign-in helper tool:

If a security info change is already pending, changes that require a security code can be blocked until the protection period ends.

For Microsoft Teams Free, after changing the alias:

    • On desktop, sign out and sign back in with the new email.
    • On mobile, uninstall and reinstall the app, then sign in with the new email.
