Try these steps in order:
- Check the physical connection first.
- Make sure the capture card is firmly connected to the PC.
- Try a different USB port on the PC.
- Check that the headset and any audio cables are fully plugged in.
- If headphones are plugged in, unplug them once and test again, because audio output can change depending on what is connected.
- Make sure Windows is using the correct output device.
- Select the Speakers icon on the taskbar.
- Select the arrow to open the list of audio devices.
- Choose the device that should play sound.
- If multiple devices appear, test each one.
- Check that the device is not muted or disabled.
- Right-click the Speakers icon on the taskbar and select Open Volume mixer.
- Make sure none of the volume controls are muted.
- Go to Start > Settings > System > Sound.
- Select the audio device and open Device properties.
- Make sure the Disable check box is cleared.
- Check Device Manager for the audio device.
- Select Start, type Device Manager, and open it.
- Expand Sound, video and game controllers.
- If the audio device appears, right-click it and select Enable device if that option is available.
- If it does not appear, select View > Show hidden devices, then Action > Scan for hardware changes.
- Update or reinstall the audio driver.
- In Device Manager, expand Sound, video and game controllers.
- Right-click the sound device and select Update driver.
- Select Search automatically for drivers.
- If that does not help, right-click the device again and select Uninstall device.
- If prompted, select the option to remove or delete the driver software.
- Restart the PC. Save open work first, because restart is required.
- After restart, Windows should reinstall the driver automatically.
- If Windows still does not detect audio, install the latest driver from the device manufacturer.
- Go to the PC or sound card manufacturer’s support site.
- Download the latest audio driver for the installed Windows version.
- Install it and restart the PC.
- Run the Windows audio troubleshooter.
- On Windows 11, use the Get Help audio troubleshooter.
- On Windows 10, start with the automated audio troubleshooter in Get Help.
If the problem started after a Windows update, try rolling back the audio driver in Device Manager > audio device Properties > Driver tab > Roll Back Driver.
