Sign-in verification problem

I want to change my verification email, but no longer have access to the original email address. Sign-in keeps prompting me to enter it so they can send me a verification code, but I can't access that email address anymore. How do resolve the problem, it's Catch-22.

If access to the old verification email is no longer available, use the sign-in flow option I don't have any of these and follow the prompts to replace the security info.

If sign-in is still possible with any other method, update the security methods directly:

    1. Go to the Microsoft account Security page: https://account.microsoft.com/security
    2. Select Manage how I sign in.
    3. Select Add a new way to sign in or verify.
    4. Add a new recovery email, Microsoft Authenticator, or passkey.

    Important points:

    • Verification codes sent by email can only go to the primary alias or to another email already added as a way to verify sign-in.
    • If the old email is the only verification method and it cannot be accessed, replacing security info is the supported path.
    • After a security info change request starts, some account actions can be blocked temporarily. Microsoft notes that changing all security info at once can cause the account to be restricted for 30 days.
    • Support agents cannot send verification codes or change account details.

If the code is being sent to another Microsoft account email such as Outlook, Hotmail, Live, or MSN, use two private browsing windows so both accounts stay signed in at the same time:

    1. Open one browser window in privacy mode and sign in to the account requesting the code.
    2. Open a second privacy-mode window.
    3. Sign in to the alternate email account there and get the code.
    4. Return to the first window and enter the code.

If verification emails are arriving but not visible:

    • Check the Junk Email folder.
    • Valid verification emails come from @accountprotection.microsoft.com.
    • Mark @accountprotection.microsoft.com as a trusted sender.

If no listed method works, use the sign-in helper or Contact Support. Support can help with guidance, but cannot bypass verification or change the account details.
