I want to find and fix broken shortcuts on my laptop.

    Are these shortcuts that no longer work because the items they point to have been moved to a new location? If so, you can individually edit each shortcut to point to the new location. Just right-click the shortcut, select Properties, and then edit the Target field.

    If you have a lot of shortcuts to fix, then you may want a tool that can do a search and replace on all your shortcuts at once. There is a "Shortcut Tool" that does just that within Right-Click Tools (a free tool package I wrote).

    Just to clarify, when you say "broken shortcuts," what exactly are you seeing?

    1. Are these shortcuts on the Desktop, Start menu, taskbar, or inside a folder?
    2. What happens when you click one?

    You haven't explained what you mean by a "broken shortcut". If you click on a shortcut that points to a file that no longer exists, Windows will ask if you want the shortcut to be deleted.

    To search for the shortcuts on your computer - there will likely be hundreds of them - open File Explorer and search for files with the .lnk file extension.
