Basic and advanced options not showing on Get data Web window

Hi, I am trying to use an API with Power BI. My colleagues and I currently have the free version 2.157.879.0 64-bit (August 2026). Despite us all having the same version, when I click Get Data and select Web, I do not get the same Basic and Advanced options that my colleagues do. I only get the below window and so there is nowhere to add the API key. When I put in the URL of the query I want, I get an "invalid credentials" error. Why am I not seeing the same options and how to I get the Advanced option please?

Hi Amy,

If you and your colleagues are running the same Power BI Desktop version but only your Web connector is missing the Basic and Advanced options, this is typically related to local Power BI configuration rather than the version itself. The screenshot in your post suggests that you are seeing a different Web connector experience than the traditional dialog.

I would recommend the following checks:

  1. Compare Preview Features
    • Go to File > Options and settings > Options > Preview features.
    • Compare your settings with a colleague who can see the Basic/Advanced tabs.
    • Restart Power BI after making any changes.
  2. Clear Existing Credentials
    • Go to File > Options and settings > Data source settings.
    • Remove any stored credentials related to the API endpoint.
    • Try connecting again.
  3. Use Power Query as a Workaround If you need to send an API key or authorization header, you can bypass the Web dialog entirely by using Power Query (Advanced Editor)
