To obtain ESUs you should be signed in with a Microsoft account that has Administrator status. Microsoft will eventually detect that you have done that, and then you'll see a notification in Settings > Windows Update that your computer is eligible for ESUs.

Its ok as the problem has been resolved for now. I reset Windows and that has got rid of the virus, at least so far there has been no recurrence of it

Hi Alan,

Can you supply a screenshot of the error?

As an alternative, Add a new Microsoft account to your Windows PC:

https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/security/identity-signin/manage-user-accounts-in-windows

In the Settings app on your Windows device

select Accounts > Other user or use the following shortcut:

Other Users

Under Add other user, select Add account
In the Settings app on your Windows device
select Accounts > Other user or use the following shortcut: Other Users
1. Under Add other user, select Add account

Sign in using that account, and enroll in ESU using the same.
