My Hotmail mailbox will not load. I can sign into my Microsoft account successfully, but Outlook gets stuck loading and then shows error 500:

Microsoft.Exchange.Data.Storage.MailboxIn-TransitException (please see attached screenshot). I have tried Outlook.com on my phone as well as the downloaded app on my phone and outlook.com on my laptop. It has been happening for a couple of days. Please check my mailbox on the Exchange back end. Screenshot 2026-09-04 084049.png

The "500 – Microsoft.Exchange.Data.Storage.MailboxIn-TransitException" error usually indicates a server-side Exchange mailbox operation or migration rather than a problem with your password, browser, or device.

Since you have already tested Outlook.com on multiple devices (phone and laptop) and on different networks (Wi-Fi and mobile hotspot), the issue is very unlikely to be local.

I recommend checking the Outlook.com service status and trying once more using Edge/InPrivate with browser extensions disabled. If the same error continues, Microsoft Support will need to check the mailbox on the Exchange backend and confirm whether the mailbox is stuck in a migration or other server-side operation.

Do not delete the account or repeatedly change the password, as those steps are unlikely to resolve a "MailboxIn-TransitException".

If the mailbox has been unavailable for several days, contact Microsoft Support and provide the exact error:

    "Microsoft.Exchange.Data.Storage.MailboxIn-TransitException"

along with the HTTP 500 status and the approximate time the problem started.

Hi @PAH , Welcome in Community

Do you have a consumer or business account? There's been a recent issue with business accounts that prevented access

The Microsoft.Exchange.Data.Storage.Mailbox Transit Exception message accompanied by status code 500 indicates an operation in progress directly on Microsoft servers

Have you tried logging in on multiple computers? Have you also tried using multiple network connections, such as your phone's hotspot?

Usually there's no technical intervention you can perform locally on your browser or computer. The migration process usually completes automatically; simply reload the Outlook web page after a few hours to check if the migration is complete.

    Let me know

    Elvis
