This usually means the account was temporarily blocked after too many sign-in attempts, even if the current password is correct. It can also happen because of an app, browser, device, or network issue, or because someone else is unsuccessfully trying to sign in.
Try these steps in order:
- Stop repeated sign-in attempts
Repeated retries can keep the temporary block active.
- Use another sign-in method
On the sign-in page, select Other ways to sign in.
If available, use a verification option that is already set up, such as a code, mobile app approval, PIN, fingerprint, face, or security key.
- Try account recovery
If the password may no longer be accepted, use Recover your account: https://account.live.com/password/reset
- Use the Microsoft sign-in helper
The sign-in helper can check for account issues and guide the next steps:

- Try a different device or network
Sign in from another phone, tablet, or computer.
If on Wi-Fi, switch to mobile data, or vice versa.
- Update or reinstall the app if the problem happens in an app
Delete or uninstall the app, then install the latest version.
- If using Outlook mobile
Use the Outlook mobile sign-in helper:
