Using New Outlook on Windows for personal email, calendar, and contact management
If the iPhone account is added as IMAP or POP, contacts and calendar will not fully sync. IMAP and POP sync email only. For contacts and calendar to sync, the account must be added as an Exchange/Exchange ActiveSync account.
Because mail and calendar are syncing but Outlook contact changes from the laptop are not appearing on the iPhone, check these items:
- On the iPhone, open Settings > Accounts & Passwords and select the account.
- On iOS 10, use Settings > Mail > Accounts.
- Make sure Contacts is enabled.
- Verify the account type.
- If the account is shown as IMAP, remove it and add it again as Exchange.
- If the account was added incorrectly as IMAP, contacts will not sync.
- If using the Outlook mobile app instead of the iPhone Contacts app:
- In Outlook, go to Settings > tap the account > make sure Sync Contacts is enabled.
- On iPhone, open Settings > scroll down to Outlook > make sure Contacts and Background App Refresh are turned on.
- If the account is in the Outlook app and still not syncing:
- Go to Outlook > Settings > tap the account > Reset Account.
- If that does not help, delete the account from the app and add it again.
- If contacts were imported from another connected account, those imported contacts may not sync across devices and apps. Contacts created in People can sync, but imported contacts may not.
If the iPhone is using the Gmail app or a Gmail-configured account path, the key requirement is still that the mailbox be configured with a sync method that supports contacts, not IMAP/POP.
